Cam Huffman has developed a broad knowledge of state government at a relatively young age and learned how to adjust to a wide variety of situations.

After a stint as Director of Purchasing for West Virginia’s largest state-wide mental health agency Cam joined the administration of Governor Bob Wise in January of 2001.  After serving as a member of the Governor’s Inaugural Committee, Cam was asked to be the lead member of the Governor’s Advance Team. Within eight months the Governor asked him to become his personal assistant and traveled to all 55 counties and met with community and business leaders from across the state.  His attention to detail and follow-up gained him both attention and praise.  He tracked administrative goals and worked with members of the Governor’s Cabinet on constituent issues and special projects.  He worked with both the scheduling and communications offices on planning.  He often was asked to coordinate on state-wide media management.

Within a year Cam was again asked to expand his responsibilities and assist with the Legislative Liaison’s office.  His wide knowledge of the individuals who run state government made him an important asset.  His responsibilities included tracking the Administration’s agenda.  He participated in high level meetings on the development of the state budget and assisted in preparation for the Governor’s annual State-of-the-State message to the Legislature.

In the summer of 2003 he was the “field general” for one of the largest media events in state history when he coordinated media outreach for the Jessica Lynch’s return to West Virginia.  Cam took charge of thousands of details for an event that received praise from a usually indifferent national media.  Bob Franken of CNN referred to it as a “very professional operation” and Patty Davis of CNN reported that “the whole thing was taken over by West Virginia Governor Bob Wise’s Office……so they knew exactly what they’re doing.”

Cam and Keith Burdette formed the Burdette Group in the fall of 2003 and attracted a variety of clients with unique needs and expectations. The Burdette Group organized an accreditation process for local convention and visitor’s bureaus which gained the endorsement of the West Virginia Tourism Commission and then helped to usher through changes to West Virginia’s Occupancy Tax to fund improvements. It has represented pharmaceutical interests and those of state conservation officers. In 2004, the Burdette Group became the first independent management contractors of a West Virginia Development Authority and quickly turned it into an efficient and effective operation. A growing list of new and expanded businesses have relied on support from the Burdette Group team, not the least of which includes Coldwater Creek, Mountain State Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Enviro Tech and Hino Motors. Cam continues to utilize his organizational talents for many corporate clients by staging a variety of events for both the media and the public.

Cam brings to the Burdette Group both knowledge and attention to detail that will serve in any situation for any client’s needs.
